Arizona State on a skid
Arizona State started the year with a pair of wins, but has since lost three of its last four, including a 28-21 loss at Colorado on Oct. 6. The Sun Devils are now 3-3 on the year, 1-2 in the Pac-12, 4-2 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under total.
ASU has been led by its defense this year, allowing just 21.2 points and 385 yards per game. On offense, the Sun Devils are putting up 29.8 points and 416.2 yards per contest. Quarterback Manny Wilkins has thrown for 1,446 yards and 11 touchdowns to lead the offense. He is dealing with a leg injury, but is expected to play this evening. Eno Benjamin has rushed for 715 yards and seven touchdowns while N’Keal Harry has caught 34 passes for 481 yards and five scores.
Stanford drops back-to-back games
Stanford started the season 4-0, but has suffered lopsided losses to Notre Dame and Utah in their last two games. The Cardinal are now 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Pac-12, 3-3 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under. Stanford is just 1-3 ATS in its last four.
The Cardinal have been pretty solid on defense for most of the season, allowing just 22 points per game. They are giving up nearly 400 yards per game, including 164.3 rushing yards per game. On offense, Stanford is putting up just 25.7 points and 354.2 yards per game. Their run game has been a real issue, averaging just 85.7 yards per game. Bryce Love is having a very underwhelming season, rushing for just 327 yards on 76 carries with three touchdowns this year. He missed Stanford’s last game with an ankle injury, but is expected to play tonight. K.J. Costello has thrown for 1,611 yards and 12 touchdowns to lead the offense, but also has six interceptions. Tight end JJ Arcega-Whiteside has 30 catches for 541 yards and eight touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Arizona State
Arizona State has covered the spread in five of its last six home games and seven of its last 10 games against winning teams.
Stanford
Stanford is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven Thursday games and 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games following a loss.
Prediction:
All three losses for Arizona State have come on the road. The Sun Devils are unbeaten at home, including a hard-fought win over Michigan State. I expect this game to be similar to that one, as both offenses should struggle to score. Stanford has looked like a shell of itself over the last few weeks and they really haven’t had an impressive win in over a month. If the Cardinal can’t get the run game started, it could be another long night.
