Irish destined for playoffs?
Notre Dame has won back-to-back games over ranked opponents, defeating Stanford and Virginia Tech the last two weeks. The Irish are now 6-0 on the season and halfway to securing a playoff spot with their toughest games behind them. ND is 4-2 against the spread while going 3-3 with the over/under total. They have covered in three straight.
The Fighting Irish have really improved on offense over the weeks. They now are posting 34.8 points and 441.7 yards per game. Ian Book has thrown or 887 yards and nine touchdowns and been a big reason for the spark of the offense. Miles Boykin is the leading receiver with 28 catches for 428 yards and three scores while Dexter Williams and Tony Jones Jr. have combined for 641 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Notre Dame is giving up 19.5 points and 357.3 yards per game.
Pitt gets OT win
Pittsburgh ended a 2-game losing streak last weekend with a 44-37 OT win over Syracuse to move to 3-3 on the season. The Panthers are 2-1 in the ACC, 2-4 against the spread and 3-3 with the under. They have yet to cover on the road this season.
Pitt has really struggled on defense, allowing 32.8 points and 420.8 yards per game. Their run defense is giving up nearly 200 yards per contest. On offense, Pitt is putting up 26 points and 353 yards per game. Qadree Ollison is leading the offense with 596 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Kenny Pickett has thrown for 880 yards and six touchdowns, but also has five interceptions.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame has covered the spread in five of its last seven against ACC opponents and in seven of its last nine following a cover.
The Panthers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games on fieldturf and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games.
I keep waiting for Notre Dame to have a letdown performance, but it just hasn’t come over the last month. They have looked better each week. Perhaps facing a lesser opponent like Pitt will spark a drop in performance, but this Irish offense is really clicking right now. I expect ND to move the ball on the Panthers with ease and I don’t see Pitt being able to answer those scores frequently enough to cover on the road.
College Football Prediction: Notre Dame -21.5
