Cajuns seek big conference win
After losing their season opener to Mississippi State by 10, Louisiana has won its last four games, including a 37-24 win at Georgia Southern back on Sept. 28. The Cajuns are 4-1 on the season, 1-0 in the Sen Belt, 5-0 against the spread and 4-1 with the over.
Louisiana has one of the nation’s top offenses, averaging 44.4 points and 540 yards per game. They have the league’s top rushing attack right now with 314 yards per game. Trey Ragas is leading the way with 548 yards and six touchdowns on the ground while Elijah Mitchell has 402 yards and nine scores. Levi Lewis has thrown for 980 yards and eight touchdowns with just two interceptions. Defensively, Louisiana is giving up 21.4 points and 345.2 yards per contest.
App State looks to stay unbeaten
Appalachian State has been looking strong to start 2019. The Mountaineers are 4-0 following a 56-37 win over Coastal Carolina on Sept. 28. They come into this game 1-0 in the Sun Belt, 3-1 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
The Mountaineers have been pretty good at scoring this year. They rank fifth nationally at 47 points per game while putting up 429.2 yards per outing. Defensively, Appalachian State is giving up 29 points and 420 yards per contest. Running back Darrynton Evans is leading the team with 471 rushing yards and nine touchdowns while Zac Thomas has thrown for 802 yards and seven scores while rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Hennigan is the team’s leading receiver with 21 catches for 275 yards and two scores.
College Football Betting Trends
The Cajuns have covered the spread in five straight following a win and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 overall.
The Mountaineers are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine road games and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
These two met twice last year and App State won both meetings, but the Cajuns covered in both. Louisiana is the favorite this time around, but the Mountaineers have won six straight meetings in this series. That can be a big mental block for a team when you can’t seem to overcome another opponent no matter what. I think that will play a factor in this contest. The Mountaineers have went on the road and beaten UNC already this season and have some pretty big road wins in program history. Louisiana is on a nice run, but the Cajuns haven’t really faced much in terms of competition. App State is going to be a little too much for the Cajuns tonight.
