Oklahoma vs. Iowa State, 10/3/20 College Football Week 5 Predictions

No. 18 Oklahoma will travel to Iowa State following its shocking home loss to Kansas State last week. Will the Cowboys rebound and cover as a road favorite or are the Cyclones the play as a home underdog?

Game Snapshot

123 Oklahoma Sooners (-7.5) at 124 Iowa State Cyclones (+7.5); o/u 62.5

MidAmerican Energy Field, Ames, IA

Oklahoma Sooners Game Notes

Oklahoma redshirt freshman QB Spencer Rattler leads the power five in most completions 20+ yards downfield with nine. Rattler (6'1"/205) is tied with Louisville QB Malik Cunningham for most deep completions of 20 or more yards downfield, though Cunningham has played one more game. Rattler's arm strength was never in question, however his two interceptions against Kansas State shows he still has some maturing to do. The talented redshirt-freshman is only two games into his college career but is averaging 338 passing yards and four touchdowns passes per game. Oklahoma will try to bounce back with a win against Iowa State on Saturday.

Iowa State Cyclones Game Notes

Iowa State junior QB Brock Purdy completed 18-of-22 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 37-34 win over TCU. Purdy (6'1/212) got back on track after he struggled mightily in the opening-season upset loss to Louisiana (145 yards, 0/1 TD/INT, 4.1 YPA). With Breece Hall rolling, the Cyclones needed efficiency and ball-security out of Purdy, not necessarily explosion. He delivered. Purdy, who was PFF’s No. 11-rated passer in each of the past two seasons, is a potential Day 2 pick in next spring’s draft if he decides to forgo his final season of college.

Oklahoma vs. Iowa State Betting Prediction

The Sooners are winless against the spread in their last four meetings with the Cyclones and are 1-5 against the number in their last six road games. They’re also just 1-6 against the number in their last seven conference games, are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games when listed as a road favorite and have dropped seven of their last nine at the betting window dating back to last season. Meanwhile, the Cyclones have covered in five of their last six games as a home underdog, are 23-8-2 against the number in their last 33 games played in October and are 19-7-1 against the spread in their last 27 games as an underdog.
