Connecticut vs. Houston Pick
Will No. 6 Houston have any trouble when it plays host to Connecticut tonight at 8PM ET on ESPN?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Houston is the clear favorite at home in this game, as the Cougars are getting odds of -27.5 points against Connecticut. The over/under total for the contest is currently listed at 49 points. These two met last season with UConn getting a 20-17 home victory as a 7.5-point underdog.
Houston really hasn’t had any trouble on its way to a 4-0 start to the season. The Cougars are 3-1 against the spread and 1-0 in the AAC. This year’s team is putting up impressive numbers on both sides of the ball. Houston is averaging 44.8 points and 497.5 yards per game on offense while giving up just 10.5 points and 228.8 yards per game on defense. Greg Ward Jr. has thrown for 936 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while five players have over 110 rushing yards, including 113 from Ward.
Connecticut fell to 2-2 on the season with a 31-24 loss to Syracuse at home last week. The Huskies are now 0-3-1 against the spread for 2016 and 0-1 in the AAC. The Huskies are giving up 22.5 points and 381 yards per game right now while the offense is amassing just 21.3 points and 354.5 yards per game. Bryant Shirreffs has thrown for 819 yards and two touchdowns as well as rushing for 187 yards to lead the offense while Noel Thomas has 40 receptions for 388 yards.
Houston has been moving along just fine this season and UConn doesn’t appear to be a team that can slow that down. The Cougars won’t have any problem stopping this offense of the Huskies, as they’ve stopped much better. The UConn defense also won’t pose a great challenge to the Cougars, who have moved the ball against better units. Look for Houston to win big once again.
