Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, Purdue is the slim favorite at home, as the Boilermakers are getting odds of -1 point against Minnesota. The over/under total for the game is listed at 56.5 points. The public betting currently has 62 percent going on Purdue as the slight favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Golden Gophers off to 3-0 start
Minnesota went 3-0 in non-conference play, including an OT win at Fresno State. The Gophers were off last weekend and come into this game 3-0 overall, 0-2-1 against the spread and 2-1 with the over.
The Gophers are giving up 29.3 points per game despite allowing just 303.3 yards per game on defense. Offensively, Minnesota is putting up 33.7 points and 356.7 yards per contest. Tanner Morgan has thrown or 699 yards and six touchdowns to lead the offense while Rodney Smith is the leading rusher with 210 yards and a score. Smith left the last game with an oblique injury, but he is expected to play on Saturday. Rashod Bateman is the top receiver with 15 catches for 289 yards and two scores.
Purdue beat up by TCU
The Purdue Boilermakers are coming off a rough 34-13 loss at home to TCU two weeks ago. They are just 1-2 to start the year with a 1-2 record against the spread and a 2-1 mark with the over.
The Boilermakers are giving up 30.7 points and 438.7 yards per game this year on defense while putting up 28.7 points and 421 yards per game on offense. Purdue is a pass-heavy offense, putting up just 50 rushing yards per game. Elijah Sindelar has thrown for 932 yards and nine touchdowns, but he is listed as questionable to play on Saturday due to a concussion. Rondale Moore has caught 27 passes for 369 yards and two touchdowns to lead the receivers while Zander Horvath is the leading rusher with 91 yards.
College Football Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Golden Gophers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games on grass and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games following a win.
Purdue
The Boilermakers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a bye.
Prediction:
The home team has won eight of the last nine in this series, covering the spread in the last two meetings as well. The big question right now is how tested is Minnesota? The Gophers did pick up a double-OT win at Fresno State, but they have narrowly defeated South Dakota State and Georgia Southern at home. Purdue has played Nevada, Vanderbilt and TCU thus far. I think the Boilers have been more tested, will have the home-field advantage, and have the better breakout player in Moore.
College Football Week 5 Prediction: Purdue -1
