Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Cowboys are 14-point favorites to beat the Red Raiders. The total, meanwhile, sits at 77.5 points. As of this writing, 56% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Cowboys.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech freshman QB Alan Bowman completed 43-of-59 passes for 605 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-49 victory over Houston on Saturday. Yes, those numbers are correct. We looked twice, too. Bowman was sensational against the Cougar defense, and while there were a couple of missed throws, the freshman signal-caller was certainly accurate enough to take advantage of a Houston secondary that struggled to keep anything in front of them. He found Antoine Lesley for three of his scores, with the other two going to T.J. Vasher. The Red Raiders may have a star, and if Bowman can be a starter for the next four years, he has a chance to end up with gaudy passing numbers. Oklahoma State comes next Saturday for Bowman and Texas Tech.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy said that redshirt freshman WR LC Greenwood (undisclosed) is nearing a return to practicing in full. Per Gundy, Greenwood has been working through a few nagging injuries in the early going this season. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has yet to log a catch for his young collegiate career. Tylan Wallace, Tyron Johnson and Dillon Stoner have led the way in the receiving corp thus far and will continue to do so once Greenwood returns.
Betting Trends
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are 21-6-1 against the spread in their last 28 games played in the month of September and are 2-5 against the number in their last seven conference games.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games but are 3-7 against the number in their last 10 conference games.
Prediction
I like taking underdogs getting double-digit points in potential shootouts and this will be a shootout on Saturday night in Stillwater. Bowman was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week coming off his performance against Houston where he averaged 10.25 yards per attempt and completed 72.9 percent of his 59 pass attempts. The freshman will find it more challenging to move the ball against Ok State’s defense tonight but I still like the Red Raiders to keep pace and cover the spread.
