Vols grab a win
After losses at home to Georgia Southern and BYU, Tennessee finally picked up a win last weekend with a 45-0 victory over Chattanooga. The Vols are 1-2 against the spread with a 2-1 record with the over.
The offensive numbers were pretty bad for Tennessee until last weekend, but they now are averaging 33.7 points and 394 yards per game. Defensively, the Vols are giving up just 22.3 points and 306 yards per contest. Jarret Guarantano is leading the team with 629 yards and seven touchdowns passing while Ty Chandler has rushed for 248 yards and two scores. Jauan Jennings is the team’s leading receiver with 12 catches for 208 yards and four scores.
Florida wins, but loses Frank
Florida opened up SEC play last weekend with a 29-21 win at Kentucky, but lost starting quarterback Felipe Franks in the process. The Gators are off to a 3-0 start to the season, but are 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 with the under.
The Gators have been dominant on defense, allowing just 13.7 points and 300.7 yards per game this year. Offensively, Florida is averaging 32.7 points and 428.3 yards per game. Franks dislocated his ankle during the game with Kentucky. He had thrown for 698 yards and five touchdowns this year while rushing for 68 yards and a score. Kyle Trask now takes over. He has 166 passing yards with a touchdown this season. Van Jefferson is the leading receiver with 12 catches for 201 yards and a score. Lamical Perine is the leading rusher with 120 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Vols are 8-3 with the under in their last 11 games in September, but 7-2 with the over in their last nine road games against a team with a winning home record.
Florida
The Gators are 5-1 with the over in their last six games on grass and 5-2 with the over in their last seven against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in seven of their last nine meetings, which is surprising considering that defense has been a strength for both teams. I find it hard to believe that Tennessee’s offense is going to magically be turned around from a game against Chattanooga, so I would expect Florida’s defense to dominate the game. With a new QB under center, I would also expect the Gators to have some struggles on offense. They weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire with Franks as is. I think there could be some ugly football in this one.
