Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Cowboys are 1-point favorites to beat the Broncos. The total, meanwhile, sits at 66.5 points. As of this writing, 52% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Cowboys.
Boise State Broncos
Boise State HC Brian Harsin believes there’s a good chance Octavius Evans (undisclosed) could play against Oklahoma State on Saturday. This would be most welcome news for the Broncos, as they have arguably their biggest game of the season coming up against the Cowboys. Evans was a game-time decision for Saturday’s game against UConn, but ultimately didn’t play. If he can’t go, Sean Modster will likely be the go-to target — and might be even if Evans is back — but adding another talented option like Evans would be a big development for the New Year’s Eve bowl game hopefuls.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State redshirt senior QB Taylor Cornelius completed 25-of-40 passes for 428 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday’s 55-13 win over South Alabama. Cornelius had a few wobbly moments in his decision-making, but also spun some beautiful throws to post his first career game of 400 yards passing. There’s only so much to read into big performances against the likes of Missouri State and South Alabama (Oklahoma State’s first two opponents this season), but competition will level up next weekend, when the Cowboys host Boise State. That game figures to serve as an intriguing measuring stick for both teams.
Betting Trends
Boise State
The Broncos are 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games and are 6-1 at the betting window in their last seven games coming off a win.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are 7-1 against the number in their last eight non-conference games.
Prediction
It’s tempting to lay the small number with Oklahoma State because how often do we get the Cowboys at home and on a discount? That said, this Boise State team is loaded with veteran talent. Senior quarterback Brett Rypien is off to a fantastic start, throwing for 667 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. They also have a junior running back in Alexander Mattison, who rushed for a team-best 171 yards and a defense that has allowed an average of just 13.5 points per game. Oklahoma State doesn’t suffer many losses at Boone Pickens Stadium but I see this as being one of those times.
