North Texas vs. Florida Pick
No. 23 Florida hopes it can find enough offense to run over North Texas when the two meet up on Saturday at 7:30PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Florida is the clear favorite in this game, as the Gators are getting odds of -36.5 points against North Texas. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 49.5 points. These two have no recent meetings to consider.
Florida is off to a 2-0 start to the season thanks to a 24-7 win over UMass and a 45-7 win over Kentucky. The Gators are 1-1 against the spread and are again showing dominance on defense. They have allowed just 14 points total in two games while holding opponents to only 168 yards per game. On offense, Florida is putting up 463.5 yards thus far, but the offense hasn’t faced a real tough defense yet. It isn’t likely to this week either. Luke Del Rio has looked good thus far, throwing for 576 yards and six touchdowns to lead Florida. The Gators also have a pair of 100-yard rushers.
North Texas is 1-1 on the season. The Mustangs suffered a 34-21 loss to SMU to start the year and then defeated Bethune Cookman 41-20. The Mean Green are 1-1 against the spread in the two games. North Texas is putting up 422 yards per game on offense right now, but the defense is allowing over 400 yards per game, including over 200 rushing yards per game. North Texas has been using different quarterbacks thus far, neither with impressive numbers. Jeffrey Wilson has been the leader of the offense with 169 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Florida should have no issues stopping this team. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a shutout. The concern is over the Florida offense right now. Though the Gators put up 45 points against Kentucky, they were held to just 24 points by UMass. Still, North Texas is giving up plenty of points to far worse teams, so we think Florida should be able to handle this defense. We like the Gators to cover the lofty spread.
