SMU rolled in two games
The SMU Mustangs haven’t been able to get much going this season, suffering a 46-23 loss at North Texas and a 42-12 loss at home to TCU so far. The Horned Frogs have failed to cover in both and have hit the under in both. They have hit the under in three straight dating back to last season.
SMU’s offense hasn’t gotten off to a good start this year. The Mustangs are averaging just 17.5 points and 249 yards per game. On the ground, they are putting up just 67.5 yards per game. Quarterback Ben Hicks has thrown for 363 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense while Braeden West has 104 rushing yards and two scores on 19 carries. Defensively, things aren’t much better. SMU is giving up 44 points and 461 yards per game, including over 300 passing yards per contest.
Wolverines get on track
After the 24-17 loss at Notre Dame to start the year, Michigan got itself on track with a 49-3 win over Western Michigan at home last week. The Wolverines are 1-1 against the spread and 2-0 with the under this year. They have hit the under in four of their last six as a program.
For the year, Michigan is averaging 33 points and 379 yards per game on offense. They had a lackluster showing at ND, but put up 451 total yards last week with 308 coming on the ground. Karan Higdon had a big game with 156 yards on 13 carries. He has 228 yards for the year with two scores. Transfer QB Shea Patterson has thrown for 352 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Defensively, Michigan is holding opponents to just 13.5 points and 255 yards per game.
College Football Betting Trends
SMU
SMU has hit the under in four straight non-conference games and in seven of their last 10 overall.
Michigan
Michigan is 4-0-1 with the under in its last five games in September and 3-1-1 with the under in its last five non-conference games.
Prediction:
I see this game going a lot like Michigan’s game last week against Western Michigan. The Wolverines should dominate SMU on both sides of the ball, as they tend to beat up on pretty weak opponents. I see Michigan running all over the place while SMU can’t establish any offense against the Wolverines’ speed. The key will be if SMU can contribute to the total at all. Michigan should put up at least 42 points, so SMU will have to score at least 7-10 points for the over to hit. I think it can happen on Saturday. The total has been dropped lower than it should be, in my opinion.
College Football Prediction: SMU/Michigan Over 53.5
