Pitt gets past Ohio
Pittsburgh suffered a 30-14 loss at home to Virginia to open the season, but bounced back last week with a 20-10 win over Ohio. The Panthers are 1-1 against the spread while hitting the under in both games.
The Pitt Panthers have struggled offensively this year, averaging just 17 points and 372 yards per game thus far. The defense has been playing well, allowing just 20 points and 261 yards per game. Kenny Pickett has led the offense with 506 passing yards and two touchdowns, but also has two interceptions. Maurice Ffrench has 16 receptions for 192 yards and a score while A.J. Davis is the leading rusher with 114 yards. Jaylen Twyman is leading the defense with three sacks.
Penn State cruising along
Penn State is off to a 2-0 start thanks to a 79-7 win over Idaho and a 45-13 win over Buffalo through the first two games. The Nittany Lions have covered the spread in both games while going over in both as well.
The Nittany Lions have been dominant thus far, averaging 62 points and 515 yards per game on offense while allowing just 10 points and 287 yards per game defensively. Quarterback Sean Clifford is leading the team with 559 passing yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 108 yards. KJ Hamler is the leading receiver with seven catches for 177 yards and two scores while Devyn Ford has 108 rushing yards and a score. Yetur Gross-Matos is leading the defense with 3.5 sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
The Panthers have hit the under in eight straight road games against a team with a winning home record and in 11 of their last 12 road games.
Penn State has hit the over in 12 of its last 14 non-conference games and in 12 of their last 15 following a win.
These two have met the last three seasons, going over in two of the three meetings. Given that Penn State has put up big points in the first two games, it is surprising to see the total so low here. I think Penn State can continue to score at home against a Pittsburgh team that hasn’t been very good defensively in recent years. The Panthers haven’t shown much on offense, but I still think they can contribute some points here, which will allow this over to hit. Penn State seems to be out for blood this season.
