UNC shocks Miami
North Carolina is off to a surprising 2-0 start to the season with narrow wins over South Carolina and Miami. The Tar Heels are 2-0 against the spread so far in the Mack Brown-era while splitting the over/under at 1-1.
UNC is off to a pretty solid start on both sides of the ball. Despite averaging just 26 points thus far, they are putting up 436 yards per game through a balanced attack. Defensively, the Heels are giving up 22.5 points and 379 yards per game. The defense did take a big hit against Miami as Patrice Rene was lost for the season with a torn ACL. The CB had six tackles through two games. QB Sam Howell has been leading the team this year with 519 passing yards and four touchdowns. Javonte Williams is leading the ground attack with 178 yards and a score while Dyami Brown has eight catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
Wake gets to 2-0
Wake Forest is off to a 2-0 start thanks to a 41-21 win at Rice this past weekend. The Demon Deacons pushed as a 20-point favorite and are 0-1-1 against the spread thus far while hitting the over in both games.
The Demon Deacons have put up some big offensive numbers against some weak teams thus far. They are averaging 39.5 points and 546 yards per contest on offense thanks to nearly 360 passing yards per game. Defensively, Wake is giving up 28 points and 458.5 yards per contest. Quarterback Jamie Newman is off to a great start, throwing for 713 yards and six touchdowns to lead the team. He has two receivers with over 200 yards already in Scotty Washington and Sage Surratt.
College Football Betting Trends
North Carolina
UNC has hit the over in five straight road games and the Tar Heels are 5-0-1 with the over in their last six ACC games.
Wake Forest
Wake Forest has hit the over in five straight games in September and in eight of their last 11 games on fieldturf.
Prediction:
The two have hit the over in three of their last five meetings and the total is set pretty high given all that Wake Forest has been able to do on offense thus far. However, the Deacons haven’t faced much competition to slow them down with the ball. That changes this week. UNC has been put up against some good athletes in South Carolina and Miami and the defense has responded well. The Heels may see an improvement on offense against this Wake defense, but I don’t see UNC doing enough to really make this game a shootout.
College Football Week 3 Prediction: North Carolina/Wake Forest Under 64.5
