BYU vs. Navy, 9/7/20 College Football Week 1 Predictions

The Navy Midshipmen opened as 3-point home favorites versus the BYU Cougars but now the visitors are slight favorites. What’s the play for bettors in this college football Week 1 matchup at 8:00 p.m. ET tonight?

Game Snapshot

243 BYU Cougars (-1) at 244 Navy Midshipmen (+1); o/u 48.5

BYU Cougars Game Notes

The Cougars face an aggressive Midshipman team that likes taking risks and bringing a lot of pressure. With plenty of experience on the offensive line and at quarterback, that should create some openings if BYU can find them.

Navy Midshipmen Game Notes

The Midshipman have a new quarterback at the helm in senior Daylen Moris but Navy’s system is well-constructed and he’ll likely be set up for success. The Cougars were 78th in the nation against the run last year and will have to play at a much higher level to slow down the Midshipmen.

BYU vs. Navy Betting Prediction

With the COVID-19 pandemic making it impossible to get the necessary reps and preparation time in for programs across the nation, I’m choosing to back teams that offer the most experience from a year ago. That would be BYU in the case of tonight’s matchup, as the Cougars bring back the majority of their offense, especially at quarterback and along the offensive line. Meanwhile, Navy runs the Triple Option, which will help newcomer Daylen Moris make a smooth transition, but I expect the timing of the offense to be off at times, which leads to three-and-outs or turnovers. With no crowd to impact things for the road team, I’m laying the 1 point with the Cougars.
