Tennessee humiliated in opener
The Tennessee Volunteers had arguably the most notable loss of Week 1, as they suffered a 38-30 loss at home to Georgia State. The Vols were a 24.5-point favorite coming into the game and went over the 58-point total.
The Vols put up 404 yards in the loss to Georgia State, but they committed three turnovers. Defensively, Tennessee gave up 352 yards to Georgia State, including 213 rushing yards. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano had 311 passing yards with two touchdowns. The Tennessee offense could only produce 93 rushing yards on 31 carries. Ty Chandler led the way with 48 yards on six carries. Jauan Jennings was the leading receiver with seven catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.
BYU gasses out against Utah
BYU opened up its season at home last Thursday, suffering a 30-12 loss to in-state rival Utah. The Cougars were a 5-point underdog coming in, but couldn’t cover the spread. They also went under the 49-point total.
The Cougars were held to just 300 total yards of offense in the loss while committing three turnovers. BYU wasn’t too bad defensively, giving up just 368 yards to Utah. The Utes had two defensive touchdowns, so the score didn’t indicate how well BYU’s defense did. Quarterback Zach Wilson threw for 208 yards on 21 of 33 passing while also rushing for 43 yards. He also had two pick sixes. Ty’Son Williams led the ground attack with 45 yards on seven carries.
College Football Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Volunteers are 7-2 with the under in their last nine games in September and 6-2 with the under in their last eight non-conference games.
BYU
The Cougars have hit the under in five straight against SEC opponents and in 22 of their last 31 non-conference games.
Prediction:
Tennessee put up some points against a bad team last week, but I don’t see the Vols having the same success against BYU. The Cougars are physical football team that should be able to slow down the Vols and make this a low-scoring battle. BYU isn’t much for offense and Tennessee’s defense should have more success this week at home against smashmouth offense.
