Rutgers vs. Washington Pick
Will today's Rutgers and Washington matchup be high-scoring for bettors at 2:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Washington is now a 26.5-point home favorite versus Rutgers after the number opened at Huskies -24. As for the over/under, the number opened at 55 but has been bet down to 54.
The Scarlet Knights weren't a good team to back at the betting window in 2015. They failed to cover in eight of their 12 games on the year and lost by an average margin of -7.8 per game. As the road team in 2015, Rutgers was 2-3 against the spread, losing by an average margin of -16.6 points per contest, and as a road underdog the Scarlet Knights were 1-3 at the betting window and lost by 23.2 PPG.
As for the Huskies, they covered in eight of their 13 games in 2015 and won by an average margin of 11.8 points per game. As a favorite they were 6-2 at the betting window and at home they were 4-3 against the number, winning by an average margin of 17.3 points per contest. (See why we picked Washington to cover the spread earlier this week.)
OUR PICK: The Huskies had one of the best defenses in the nation last season and return most of their players on its two-deep roster. But Chris Petersen also has plenty of firepower returning on offense and now that quarterback Jake Browning received all of that playing time as a freshman last year, he should be even better this season. Rutgers had a horrible secondary a year ago and it's unlikely that the Scarlet Knights improved much in that area. That means plenty of big plays for Washington today, and plenty of points for 'over' bettors.
