What will Clowney run in the 40?
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (The Spread) – South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has officially checked in at this year’s NFL scouting combine.
Clowney measured in at 6-foot-5 and 1/4 inches and 266 pounds at the NFL scouting combine on Saturday morning. For comparison, Mario Williams was 6’7″ and 295 pounds, while Julius Peppers was 6’6″ and 283 pounds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Clowney has an over/under of 4.50 seconds for fastest 40-yard dash time. Williams ran the forty in 4.70 seconds while Peppers ran in 4.68 seconds. That’s probably why the over 4.50 for Clowney is -185, while the under is +140.
SI.com’s Don Banks had Clowney going No. 3 overall to the Jaguars in his most recent mock drafts, but he’s slotted to go anywhere from the first overall pick to No. 6 (the Falcons).
For what it’s worth, NFL draft analyst Mike Mayock stated that if he had a choice between Buffalo edge rusher Khalil Mack and Clowney, he’d take Mack.
“You talk about a kid like (Jadeveon) Clowney, who’s just got superhuman abilities, versus this kid, and if I had a choice between the two, I think I’m taking Mack,” Mayock said.
