Seawolves fall short at Friars
Stony Brook lost by a count of 82-78 Saturday night at Providence to drop to 7-5 overall and 2-4 on the road. Elijah Olaniyi paced the Seawolves with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 3-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 4-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Miles Latimercontributed 13 points, three boards, three assists and three steals. Andrew Garcia tallied 12 points, five caroms and two assists. Makale Foreman added 10 points, three rebounds and two dimes. Stony Brook trailed 34-24 at halftime and its rally after the break fell short.
Cavs take down Tar Heels
Virginia earned a 56-47 home win in its last game 10 days ago over North Carolina to improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavaliers led 24-18 at halftime and continued to stifle the Tar Heels after the break. Mamadi Diakite paced Virginia with 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting including 1-of-1 from 3-point range plus 5-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down three rebounds. Tomas Woldetensae tallied 11 points, three boards and two steals off the bench. Francisco Caffaro added 10 points and seven caroms as a reserve.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Seawolves are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 road games. Stony Brook is 12-5 ATS in its last 17 games overall.
The Cavaliers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. Virginia is 9-3-1 ATS in its last 13 Wednesday games.
The Cavaliers have played four top 100 teams on their schedule, but the only squads they have beaten by more than this spread are worse than Stony Brook. The Seawolves are a competent team that does have one poor loss on its resume at Delaware, but has also held its own with two of the three top 100 teams they have played. Stony Brook is a better defensive team than on the offensive end, but as long as it makes enough possessions difficult for Virginia it should be able stay within striking distance and cover this spread on the road. Don't expect many points or a fun viewing, but every basket seems to have a little more importance in a Cavaliers game and that makes it special in its own right I suppose.
