Lyons ties NCAA record
The Paladins have won two games by blowout and another two close games to start the season 4-0. The latest victory was a 107-67 decisive victory at home over North Greenville Thursday night. Junior Jordan Lyons scored a career-best 54 points and tied an NCAA record with 15 3-pointers, going 15-of-35 from the floor and going 15-of-34 from 3-point distance. He added four assists, two steals and two rebounds. Matt Rafferty was the only other player in double figures for scoring as he tallied 10 points along with six assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Villanova no match for Wolverines
The Wildcats had an NCAA championship game rematch with Michigan Wednesday night on its home court and was blown out by a score of 73-46. Eighth-ranked Villanova (2-1) was paced by Eric Paschall as he scored 10 points on just 3-of-14 shooting plus six rebounds. Phil Booth contributed nine points. The Wildcats shot only 14-of-44 from the floor including 3-of-15 from 3-point range.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Furman
The Paladins are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Furman is 5-1 ATS in its last six non-conference games.
Villanova
The Wildcats are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against an opponent with a winning road record. Villanova is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games overall.
Prediction:
The Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw against a heavily motivated Michigan team Wednesday night. I don’t expect the same kind of pushback from a Furman team that is 4-0, but has not beaten a team in the top 130 nationally. I think this one turns into a rout and will be more indicative of how good Villanova will be this season.
