Tigers stun SEC foe Wildcats

Auburn secured a 77-71 victory in overtime Sunday over Kentucky to advance to the Final Four. The Tigers (30-9) outscored the Wildcats 30-25 in the second half to even the score and 17-11 in overtime to celebrate the win. Auburn shot 26-of-65 from the floor, 7-of-23 from 3-point range plus 18-of-24 at the free throw line en route to the victory. Jared Harper paced the Tigers with 26 points on 7-of-18 shooting including 1-of-6 from 3-point distance plus a perfect 11-of-11 at the charity stripe. He also contributed five assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Bryce Brown added 24 points, three steals and two boards.

Cavs edge Boilermakers in OT thriller

In what was arguably the best game of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Virginia defeated Purdue by a score of 80-75 Saturday night in overtime to advance to the Final Four. The Cavaliers (33-3) outscored the Boilermakers 41-40 in the second half to climb even and 10-5 in the extra session. Virginia shot 27-of-65 from the floor, 9-of-27 from 3-point distance plus 17-of-20 at the free throw line. Kyle Guy led the Cavaliers with 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting including 5-of-12 from 3-point range plus 4-of-5 at the free throw line. He also pulled down 10 rebounds. Ty Jerome accounted for 24 points, seven dimes and five boards. Mamadi Diakite tallied for 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. De'Andre Hunter added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Auburn is 4-1 ATS in its last five neutral site games.

The Cavaliers are 45-20-1 ATS in their last 66 games overall. Virginia is 2-6 ATS in its last eight NCAA Tournament games.

The spread seems about right considering the whole of these two teams' seasons, but the difference in Virginia from the last several seasons to this one is in its offensive efficiency. While Auburn is an elite offensive squad, I see a lot of struggles against a Cavs team ranked fifth nationally in defensive efficiency. But the Cavaliers are second in adjusted offensive efficiency and that is where the Tigers will struggle as they would rather outscore opponents than play solid team defense. Auburn hasn't allowed fewer than 71 points in the NCAA Tournament and if Virginia gets to 70, it's going to be lights out. Going with the favorites to advance here.
