Northern Kentucky struggling to cover

Northern Kentucky is the second seed in this tournament and coming off a buzzer-beater win over Oakland in the semifinals last night. The Norse have won four straight, but are just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games. NKU is 25-8 on the season, 15-5 in conference games, 1-0 on a neutral floor, 11-20 against the spread and 16-14-1 with the under.

The Norse are a pretty good offensive team, averaging 79.2 points per game this season while shooting 48.1 percent from the field. Defensively, NKU is giving up 68.8 points per game while holding opponents to 41.8 percent shooting. Drew McDonald is leading the team with 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Tyler Sharpe is adding 14.2 points per contest.

Wright State the top seed

The Wright State basketball team is the top seed in this tournament and coming off a 66-54 win over Green bay last night. The Raiders have won three straight while covering the spread in eight of their last 10. Wright State is 21-12 on the season, 15-5 in conference play, 1-3 on a neutral floor, 18-13 against the spread and 17-14 with the under.

The Raiders are putting up 73.5 points per game on offense while shooting 43.8 percent as a team. Defensively, Wright State is giving up 67.1 points per game while opponents shoot 45.1 percent against them. Loudon Love is leading the team with 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while Billy Wampler is adding 14.8 points per contest.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Northern Kentucky

The Norse are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 neutral-site games, but just 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games against a winning team.

Wright State

The Raiders are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games following a win and 6-2 ATS in their last eight neutral-site games.

Prediction:

These two split the season series, but Wright State was able to cover the spread in both games and have covered in four straight against Northern Kentucky. The Norse didn’t look all that great last night, needing a last-second shot to get past an Oakland team that was a 6-point underdog. Wright State has been the top team in the league throughout the season and they have been problematic for Northern Kentucky. I will take my chances on the Raiders.
