Terrapins stumble versus Spartans

Maryland suffered a 78-66 defeat Saturday night at home versus Michigan State to fall to 23-6 overall and 13-5 in the Big Ten Conference. The Terrapins trailed 40-29 at halftime and were unable to rally back. Jalen Smith paced Maryland with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 2-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 6-of-7 at the free throw line. He also racked up 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Anthony Cowan Jr. contributed 13 points, four boards and three assists. Donta Scott added 10 points and three caroms.

Scarlet Knights drop third straight

Rutgers lost 65-64 Wednesday night at Penn State to drop to 18-11 overall and 9-9 in conference action. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Nittany Lions 40-23 in the second half after trailing by 18 at halftime, but the visitors gave up the go-ahead shot in the game's final minute. Jacob Young led Rutgers with 13 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting plus 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. He also tallied five assists, three steals and two rebounds. Ron Harper Jr. registered nine points, seven boards and two steals.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The road team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings. The underdog is 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings.

The Scarlet Knights are 8-1 ATS avenging a road loss this season. Rutgers is 1-2 ATS in the last three meetings.

The Terrapins can clinch at least a share of the Big Ten Conference victory with a win today and with some of the shine coming off the Scarlet Knights after a strong start to Big Ten play. Look for a motivated Maryland squad to complete the season sweep over a Rutgers team that is nasty defensively but has enough offensive deficiencies that it costs games down the stretch.
