Hokies edged by Cavaliers
Virginia Tech lost 56-53 at home Wednesday night versus rival Virginia as it allowed the deciding 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining. The Hokies (15-13, 6-11 Atlantic Coast Conference) outscored the Cavaliers 42-30 but could not pull off the win. Landers Nolley II led Virginia Tech with 13 points off the bench on 3-of-10 shooting including 1-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 6-of-6 at the free throw line. He also registered five rebounds and two assists. P.J. Horne added nine points and two boards as a reserve.
Cardinals struggle at Seminoles
Louisville fell 82-67 Monday night at Florida State to drop to 23-6 overall and 14-4 in ACC action. The Cardinals were outscored 50-27 in the second half after leading by eight at the break. Ryan McMahon led Louisville with 14 points off the bench on 3-of-5 shooting, all from 3-point range, plus 5-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down three rebounds. David Johnson tallied 13 points, four boards and four assists. Jordan Nwora added 11 points and eight caroms.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Virginia Tech
The Hokies are 4-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games. Virginia Tech is 1-10 ATS in its last 11 games.
Louisville
The Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. The favorite is 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings.
Prediction:
The Hokies have been an ATS disaster as of late but they have played some very competitive games during the stretch with a triple overtime loss, another OT defeat and the heartbreaker against Virginia highlighting matters over the last three weeks. Virginia Tech only has one blowout defeat at Duke in the five-game stretch, plus a straight up win at home versus Pittsburgh. With the Cardinals sometimes playing down to their opponent lately and also stumbling against first-place Florida State, I like the Hokies to keep it closer than expected today.
