Marquette heating up

Marquette is riding a four-game win streak following a win at Providence this weekend. The Golden Eagles have covered the spread in three straight as well. Marquette is 23-4 on the season, 12-2 in the Big East, 6-2 on the road, 18-9 against the spread and 14-10-2 with the under.

The Golden Eagles are a strong offensive team, putting up 78.9 points per game while shooting 46.8 percent as a team, including 39.9 percent from the arc. Defensively, Marquette is giving up 68.6 points per game while limiting opponents to just 40.4 percent shooting. Markus Howard is leading the team with 25.3 points per game while Sam Hauser is adding 15.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.

Nova in a funk

Villanova is coming off a 66-54 loss at Xavier this past weekend. The Wildcats have lost and failed to cover the spread in three straight. Nova is now 20-8 overall, 11-4 in the Big East, 11-2 at home, 17-11 against the spread and 17-8-2 with the under.

Nova is putting up 74.9 points per game on offense this season while shooting 44.3 percent as a team. Defensively, the Wildcats are giving up 67.4 points per game while opponents shoot 43.8 percent from the field. Phil Booth is leading the team with 18.4 points and 3.8 assists per game while Eric Paschall is adding 17.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Marquette

The Golden Eagles have covered the spread in six straight road games and eight of their last 10 Big East games.

Villanova

The Wildcats are 22-8 against the spread in their last 30 home games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games following a loss.

Prediction:

Marquette edged Villanova earlier this season and the Golden Eagles are playing much better basketball right now, but yet the Wildcats are favored at home. It doesn’t add up much on paper, but I think that Vegas knows something. Nova hasn’t been home in two weeks and it has won by at least seven points in five straight home games. I think the Wildcats can hold Marquette in check defensively and that should allow them to cover on their home floor.

College Basketball Prediction: Villanova -5
