Golden Eagles drop second straight

Marquette lost 73-65 Tuesday night at home versus Creighton to fall to 17-8 overall and 7-6 in the Big East Conference. The Golden Eagles trailed 32-22 at halftime and were unable to bounce back. Sacar Anim paced Marquette with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting including 2-of-9 from 3-point distance. He also notched three rebounds and two assists. Markus Howard tallied 13 points, five assists and four boards. Theo John contributed 12 points, 10 caroms and two blocked shots. Koby McEwen added 10 points, eight dimes and five rebounds. 

Friars down Hoyas

Providence picked up a 73-63 win Wednesday night at Georgetown to move to 15-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Friars outscored the Hoyas 43-29 in the second half after trailing by four at the break. Alpha Diallo led Providence with 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting including 3-of-6 shooting plus 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Luwane Pipkins accounted for 16 points, four asissts and three boards. Kalif Young registered 11 points, nine caroms, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots off the bench. Maliek White added 11 points, seven dimes and two rebounds as a reserve.

Prediction:

The Golden Eagles lost 81-80 at home in an overtime heartbreaker back on January 7 against the Friars. That's about all I need here, especially considering Marquette is the better team. The revenge factor should be real and the Golden Eagles had been playing solid basketball prior to their last two games. Expect Marquette to get back on track behind a big effort from its star scorer in Howard.
