According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Hoyas are 4-point home underdogs for today’s matchup against the Musketeers while the over/under currently sits at 146 points.
Xavier enters play with a 23-3 record and is 16-10 against the spread this season, including 6-3 against the number in its last nine road games. On the other side, Georgetown is 14-13 overall and 13-12 at the betting window, but is just 4-6 against the number in its last 10 games.
Prediction
File this one into the looks-too-easy category. The Musketeers have won seven of eight to remain in second place in the Big East and within 1.5 games of conference-leading Villanova. Xavier also owns the sixth-best RPI in the country, has its sights on a possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, is balanced offensively and leads the Big East in rebounding margin (plus-8.1 per game).
Georgetown, meanwhile, is ranked No. 86 in RPI and is well outside of an NCAA tournament berth. The Hoyas are fading entering today’s game, dropping six of eight, which includes a 72-64 defeat at the hands of Seton Hall on Wednesday night.
But the Hoyas have already beaten the Musketeers once this season with an 81-72 win at Cintas Center in Cincinnati on January 19 behind a career-high 21 points from sophomore guard Tre Campbell.
Despite nearly 80% of betting tickets on Xavier to cover, the point spread also dropped from 4.5 down to 4. Why? Are wiseguys trying to buy the Musketeers down to 4 so they can bounce? Or do they see value in the home dog. We think it’s the latter.
