Fighting Irish edged in OT
Notre Dame lost by a score of 50-49 in overtime Tuesday night at Virginia to drop to 15-9 overall and 6-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Fighting Irish were outscored 25-21 in the second half and 3-2 in the extra session during the defeat. Prentiss Hubb led Notre Dame with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting including 2-of-7 from 3-point distance. He also tallied four assists, three steals and two rebounds. John Mooney racked up 11 points and 14 boards. Nate Laszewski added 11 points and four caroms off the bench.
Blue Devils best Seminoles
Duke earned a 70-65 victory Monday night at home over Florida State to improve to 21-3 overall and 11-3 in conference action. The Blue Devils outscored the Seminoles 37-33 in the second half to put it away. Tre Jones paced Duke with 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting plus 3-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also tallied six assists and three rebounds. Jordan Goldwire accounted for 13 points in 25 minutes off action. Vernon Carey Jr. added 10 points, 10 boards and two steals.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The underdog is 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings. The Fighting Irish are 0-3 ATS in the last three meetings.
The Blue Devils are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games after failing to cover the spread in the three previous games. Duke is 9-18 ATS in its last 27 games when playing a team with a winning record after 15 or more games.
If you look at the Notre Dame schedule over the last two months, it has been competitive in every games. All seven losses since December 7 have been by five or fewer points and that includes a home loss to Louisville plus road defeats at Florida State and Virginia. I'm not ready to go against that kind of competitiveness, especially when the Blue Devils have had issues with focus lately against lesser opponents such as Pittsburgh, Boston College and North Carolina. I'm taking the points tonight as the Fighting Irish have shown they have the fight to hang in there for a while.
