Bulls win at Zips

Buffalo held on for a 76-70 victory at Akron Tuesday night to improve to 21-3 overall and 9-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls outscored the Zips 46-42 in the second half of the win. Buffalo shot 24-of-52 from the floor, 7-of-24 from 3-point range and 21-of-26 at the free throw line. C.J. Massinburg paced the Bulls with 21 points on 4-of-7 shooting including 2-of-4 from 3-point range plus 11-of-12 at the charity stripe. He also registered four rebounds and two assists. Dontay Caruthers tallied 15 points and four boards off the bench. Davonta Jordan added 12 points and five caroms.

Rockets win fifth straight

Toledo earned a 78-71 win Saturday night at Bowling Green to move to 20-4 overall and 8-3 in conference action. The Rockets outscored the hosts 43-38 in the second half to notch the victory. Toledo shot 27-of-58 from the field, 10-of-29 from 3-point range and 14-of-17 at the free throw line. Chris Darrington led the Rockets with 20 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting including 3-of-6 from 3-point range plus 7-of-8 at the free throw line. He also pulled down four rebounds. Nate Navigato accounted for 14 points and four rebounds. Jaelan Sanford had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three dimes. Luke Knapke recorded 11 points, four caroms and two blocked shots. Willie Jackson added 10 points and four rebounds.

In its last three games, Buffalo has lost at Bowling Green while trailing at halftime at home versus Central Michigan plus not having an easy time of it at Akron. While the Bulls dominated to the tune of 110-80 last month at home over Toledo, this is a solid Rockets squad that has won its last three games by double digits and is just outside the top 50 nationally. With revenge on their minds against a ranked team on a national broadcast, I think Toledo gets it done here to at least cover the short spread.
