Wednesday SEC Predictions
Is No. 10 Auburn laying too many points tonight to Kentucky? Here are some predictions for the three SEC matchups tonight in college basketball.
Mississippi State at Vanderbilt, 7:00 p.m. ET, SECN
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook YouWager, the Commodores are now 1-point home favorites to beat the Bulldogs after the line opened at Vanderbilt -2. Our College Basketball Public Betting page shows that 62% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Bulldogs so perhaps there’s both public and sharp money on Mississippi State tonight. Either way, I’m taking the better defensive team. The Bulldogs allow a conference-low 66.2 points per game, which also ranks 39th nationally. This is a Mississippi State team that took a hot Missouri team to overtime on Saturday before losing 89-85 in overtime. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt is coming off a 72-54 loss to Arkansas, which was its third loss in its last four games. The Bulldogs are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games against Vanderbilt and are 15-5-3 at the betting window in their last 23 games versus the Commodores overall.
SEC College Basketball Prediction: Mississippi State +1
Kentucky at Auburn, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2
The Tigers are 1-19 straight up against the Wildcats in the regular season since 2000 but I’ll be honest, I don’t trust Kentucky. They’re athletic. They’re long. But I’m not convinced they’re great at basketball. Meanwhile, Auburn enters the game on a 10-2 ATS run versus SEC opponents this season, which is the best ATS mark in the conference. The Tigers are a powerhouse on offense while the Wildcats, who are just 3-9 at the betting window against SEC rivals this season, are highly inefficient on O. Auburn has also covered in five of its last six home games, is 19-7 at the betting window in its last 26 games overall, and is 6-1 ATS in its last seven conference games. I’m not overthinking this one.
SEC College Basketball Prediction: Auburn Tigers -9.5
Georgia at Florida, 9:00 p.m. ET, SECN
As of Wednesday afternoon, 67% of the betting tickets at online sportsbooks are on the Gators but the money is on the Bulldogs. That said, I don’t like the side. Georgia is 2-8 overall and 3-7 against the spread in its last 10 games but this price seems too high on Florida. Meanwhile, the under is 8-1 in the Bulldogs’ last nine road games, is 11-2 in their last 13 games overall, and is 12-2 in their last conference games. On the other side, the under is 4-0 in the Gators’ last four games.
SEC College Basketball Predictions: Georgia/Florida under 134
