Bearcats win eighth in a row

Cincinnati secured a 69-64 victory Thursday night at Memphis to improve to 20-3 overall and 9-1 in the conference. The Bearcats outscored the hosts 40-29 in the second half after trailing by six at the break. Jarron Cumberland paced Cincinnati with 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting including 2-of-6 from 3-point range plus 7-of-10 at the free throw line. He also accounted for six rebounds and six assists. Justin Jenifer tallied 14 points, two assists and two steals. Tre Scott added 13 points plus nine rebounds and three assists. The Bearcats shot 23-of-58 from the floor, 11-of-29 from 3-point range and 12-of-22 at the free throw line.

Cougars take down Knights

Houston earned a 77-68 win at Central Florida Thursday night to move to 22-1 overall and 9-1 in AAC action. The Cougars led 40-25 at halftime and held off a Knights rally attempt. Houston shot 25-of-57 from the field, 7-of-27 from 3-point range and 20-of-28 from the free throw line. Corey Davis Jr. led the way with 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting including 1-of-6 from the free throw line plus 9-of-12 at the free throw line. He also notched five assists and three rebounds. Armoni Brooks contributed 14 points and seven boards. Galen Robinson Jr. added 12 points, seven assists and five caroms.

Prediction:

Both of these teams come in playing solid basketball and my gut says bet on the Bearcats due to the gritty nature they play with under head coach Mick Cronin. Look for Cincinnati to take the hosts out of their comfort zone and make this an ugly game. If that is what it becomes, the Bearcats should have what it takes to get it done.
