Nova strong after a loss
No. 6 Villanova has a lot of points to cover today against St. Johns, but the Wildcats are always strong when coming off a loss. Will that be the case today at Noon ET on FOX?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Villanova is the clear favorite on the road, as the Wildcats are getting odds of -20 points against St. Johns. The over/under total for the game has yet to be set.
Villanova is coming off an 82-76 loss at home to Providence this week to fall to 17-3 overall and 7-1 in the Big East. The loss snapped a nine-game win streak for the Wildcats and they now meet St. Johns, which is 0-8 in the Big East and just 7-14 overall. Clearly oddsmakers like the Wildcats to win, but covering 20 is a lot. However, one key trend to consider is that Villanova is 4-0 against the spread since 2014 after a loss. That includes two covers this year after losses.
St. Johns is just 3-5 ATS in Big East play this season and the Red Storm don’t have a great history vs. Villanova as is. The Wildcats have won seven straight meetings with St. Johns, dating back to 2011. In those seven wins, the Wildcats are 6-1 against the spread. Villanova has also covered in four straight trips to St. Johns.
