Mountaineers struggle at top-ranked Vols
West Virginia suffered an 83-66 defeat at No. 1 Tennessee Saturday in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge to drop to 9-11 on the season. The Mountaineers fell behind 31-21 at halftime en route to the loss. West Virginia shot 24-of-55 from the floor, 8-of-21 from 3-point range plus 10-of-18 at the free throw line. Esa Ahmad led the Mountaineers with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-6 at the free throw line. He added seven rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Derek Culver contributed 15 points along with six rebounds off the bench.
Cyclones race past Rebels
Iowa State secured an 87-73 victory on the road Saturday afternoon at 20th-ranked Mississippi to move to 15-5 on the season. Talen Horton-Tucker led the Cyclones with 23 points on 11-of-18 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point range. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Lindell Wigginton contributed 18 points plus five rebounds and two assists off the bench. Marial Shayok added 17 points in 26 minutes of action. Iowa State outscored the hosts 44-35 in the second half to pull away. The Cyclones shot 38-of-65 from the field, 8-of-15 on 3-point tries and 3-of-4 at the charity stripe.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. West Virginia is 1-4 ATS in its last five games overall.
The Cyclones are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Iowa State is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine home games.
The Mountaineers will be the Cyclones' worst opponent of the month and it should be a chance to race to a one-sided win. West Virginia played well defensively for one half at Tennessee before giving up a boatload of points after the break. With Iowa State having an elite offense and a solid defense, I don't see the Mountaineers hanging in there with losses by 12 or more points in three of their last four games.
