Wildcats stumble at Wisconsin

Northwestern could not figure things out at the Badgers Saturday as it lost 62-46 to drop to 12-8 overall and 3-6 in Big Ten play. The Wildcats trailed 34-24 at halftime and were unable to recover. Northwestern shot 16-of-54 from the floor, 7-of-19 on 3-point tries and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. Dererk Pardon paced the Wildcats with eight points on 3-of-7 shooting plus 2-of-11 at the free throw line. He also pulled down 11 rebounds. Anthony Gaines added eight points, three boards and three assists. 

Terrapins upset at MSG

Maryland lost 78-67 Saturday afternoon to Illinois at Madison Square Garden. The Terrapins (16-5, 7-3 Big Ten) were outscored 48-33 in the second half of the defeat. Maryland shot 20-of-45 from the floor, 6-of-19 from 3-point distance and 21-of-24 from 3-point range. Bruno Fernando paced the Terrapins with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting plus 7-of-8 from the free throw line. He also notched 10 rebounds and two steals. Anthony Cowan contributed 18 points, five assists and four rebounds. Jalen Smith added 11 points and seven caroms.

While the last Maryland loss was out of character, it can be excused for falling at a very strong Michigan State squad. Prior to that, the Terrapins had won seven in a row to find themelves ranked. Look for Maryland to latch onto the winning formula again tonight and cover the spread against a Northwestern team that struggles to put points on the board.
