Xavier vs. St. John's Pick

CBB Predictions: Xavier Musketeers vs. St. John’s Red Storm 1/29/17

Can No. 24 Xavier go on the road to Madison Square Garden and fly by St. John’s tonight at 6PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Xavier is the favorite on the road in this game, as the Musketeers are getting odds of -6.5 points against St. John’s. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 154.5 points. Xavier has won three straight over St. John’s, including a 97-82 home win on Jan. 7. St. John’s is 3-1-1 against the spread in the last five of this series.

Xavier hasn’t done all too well since beating St. John’s earlier this month. The Musketeers are just 1-4 in their last five, including an 86-78 loss at Cincinnati on Thursday. Xavier is now 14-6 overall and 4-3 in the Big East. The Musketeers are 10-9 against the spread on the season but 3-6 ATS away from home. Xavier averages 76.6 points per game on offense this season while allowing just 69.6 per game. However, those numbers nearly flip on the road, as the Musketeers put up only 69.7 on offense and give up 78. Trevon Bluiett is averaging 18.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to lead the team while Edmond Sumner adds 14.9 points per game.

Bet on Xavier vs. St. John’s

St. John’s is coming off a 91-86 win over Providence on the road to improve to 10-12 on the season and 4-5 in the Big East. The Red Storm are 10-11 against the spread this season, covering in two of their last three. St. John’s averages 76.7 points per game on offense while giving up 75 on defense. At home, the Red Storm turns up the defensive effort, allowing just 69 points per game. Marcus LoVett and Shamorie Ponds are each averaging 17 points per game to lead the team while Bashir Ahmed is adding 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Xavier hasn’t been the same since it first beat St. John’s and I think the Red Storm will play up today at home and make this game interesting. St. John’s has been somewhat inconsistent, but it should have confidence following a nice win at Providence this week. Look for the Red Storm to possibly pull off the upset and at least do enough to cover.
