Boilermakers ease past Badgers

Purdue secured a 70-51 home win Friday night over Wisconsin to improve to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in Big Ten Conference play. The Boilermakers led 33-15 at halftime en route to the victory. Isaiah Thompson paced Purdue with 14 points off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting including 2-of-3 from 3-point distance. He also contributed two assists and two steals. Sasha Stefanovic tallied 12 points and three rebounds. Matt Haarms registered 11 points and three boards as a reserve. Evan Boudreaux added 10 points, 13 caroms and three assists.

Scarlet Knights hold off Cornhuskers

Rutgers recorded a 75-72 home victory Saturday over Nebraska to move to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in conference action. The Scarlet Knights led 38-33 at halftime on their way to the victory. Akwasi Yeboah paced Rutgers with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 3-of-6 from 3-point range plus 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also brought down seven rebounds. Caleb McConnell accounted for 12 points, four boards, three assists and two steals. Jacob Young tallied 12 points and three caroms. Montez Mathis added 10 points, five caroms and two assists.

Prediction:

Rutgers is having its best season in a very long time and has done a fantastic job protecting its home arena. The Boilermakers are 1-5 straight up on the road and will face a top 10 defense nationally with an offense that occasionally sputters. I'm siding with the hosts here as I think their defense frustrates Purdue and they get enough timely hoops down the stretch to put it away.
