Orange win third in a row

Syracuse earned a 73-53 home win Thursday night over Miami to improve to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. The Orange outscored the Hurricanes 41-24 in the second half to pull away. Elijah Hughes led Syracuse with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting including 6-of-9 from 3-point distance. He added three rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Buddy Boeheim contributed 12 points, three boards and two dimes off the bench. Tyus Battle added 10 points, nine assists and six caroms. Syracuse shot 26-of-53 from the field, 14-of-30 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Hokies dominated by Tar Heels

Virginia Tech lost by a count of 103-82 Monday night at North Carolina to fall to 15-3 overall and 4-2 in the ACC. The Hokies trailed 45-31 at halftime on its way to the defeat. Virginia Tech shot 27-of-61 from the floor, 13-of-28 from 3-point range and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Ahmed Hill led Virginia Tech with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting including 4-of-7 from 3-point distance and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also contributed three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kerry Blackshear Jr. had a double-double of 19 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Nickeil Alexander-Walker tallied 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Justin Robinson added 17 points, six assists, two boards and two steals.

Prediction:

Virginia Tech has lost two of its last three games, but even though it was blown out in both games it can be partly excused by it coming against two talented teams on the road against Virginia and North Carolina. The Hokies have an elite offense that should be able to offset Syracuse's strong zone defense. Being at home where it has excelled all season, I like Va. Tech to get the job done today and cover this spread.
