Friars fall short at Bluejays
Providence lost by a score of 78-74 Saturday at Creighton to drop to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play. David Duke poured in 36 points in the losing effort on 12-of-18 shooting including 6-of-8 from 3-point distance plus 6-of-7 at the free throw line. He also registered four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Luwane Pipkins added nine points, three boards and three assists. The Friars trailed 41-37 at halftime and were unable to get over the hump after the break.
Pirates edge Red Storm
Seton Hall secured an 81-78 victory Saturday at St. John's to improve to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in the Big East. The Pirates rallied back by outscoring the Red Storm 52-36 in the second half after trailing by 13 at halftime. Myles Powell led Seton Hall with 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting including 3-of-5 from 3-point range plus 4-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down six rebounds. Quincy McKnight accounted for 20 points, seven boards and five assists. Romaro Gill racked up 14 points, 13 caroms and six blocked shots. Myles Cale added 12 points and six caroms.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Friars are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. Providence is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 road games.
The Pirates are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. Seton Hall is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games as a favorite.
The Pirates have rolled through Big East competition despite the absence of one of their top players due to injury and a pretty grueling schedule. It's time to take this team seriously. Seton Hall is nasty defensively and on its home floor, I think it shuts down a Friars offense that is usually the reason they struggle. The Pirates have won their last three home games by at least 14 points and I think tonight is another decisive victory.
