Bluejays ease past Musketeers

Creighton secured a 77-65 victory Saturday at Xavier to give head coach Greg McDermott his 500th career victory. The Bluejays (13-4, 2-2 Big East Conference) outscored the Musketeers 45-38 in the second half to pull away. Mitch Ballock led Creighton with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He also tallied eight rebounds and three assists. Ty-Shon Alexander contributed 18 points, seven boards and two assists. Denzel Mahoney recorded 13 points and four caroms. Marcus Zegarowski accumulated 11 points and five dimes. Christian Bishop added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Hoyas unable to hang with Wildcats

Georgetown suffered a 80-66 defeat Saturday at Villanova to drop to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Hoyas were outscored 41-30 in the second half of the loss. Qudus Wahab led Georgetown with 13 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting plus 1-of-1 on the road. He also registered four rebounds and two blocked shots. Jamorko Pickett contributed 12 points and six boards. Omer Yurtseven recorded 10 points and seven caroms. Terrell Allen added 10 points, six assists and two rebounds.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Bluejays are 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Creighton is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games versus a team with a winning straight up record.

The Hoyas are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games. Georgetown is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games overall.

A lot of times when an unranked team is favored over a ranked opponent, it's for very good reason. But in this case I think the wrong team might be favored. The Hoyas are good offensively, but struggle on the defensive end. Creighton thrives with a very efficient offense and is the better defensive team of the two squads. The Bluejays swept the two meetings last season and I see another win in the cards for the slight dogs.
