Orange drop second straight

Syracuse lost 67-63 at home Tuesday night against Virginia Tech to drop to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Orange were outscored 40-30 in the second half of the defeat after leading by six at the break. Elijah Hughes paced Syracuse with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting including 2-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 4-of-6 at the free throw line. He also contributed four rebounds and two assists. Joseph Girard III accounted for 12 points and two assists. Quincy Guerrier tallied 12 points, nine dimes and six rebounds off the bench. Buddy Boeheim added 10 points and four caroms.

Cavs stumble at Eagles

Virginia lost 60-53 Tuesday night at Boston Colloge to fall to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The Cavaliers trailed 30-26 at halftime and could not bounce back after the break. Braxton Key led Virginia with 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting plus 6-of-7 at the charity stripe. He also racked up eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kihel Clark registered 12 points, four boards, three assists and three steals. Kody Stattmann added 11 points, seven caroms and two assists.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Orange are 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall. Syracuse is 1-5-1 ATS in its last seven games as an underdog.

The Cavaliers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games. The home team is 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings.

Virginia had a rough go of it at Boston College and its offense continues to be brutal to do no favors to what is still the top-ranked defense nationally in terms of adjusted efficiency. With the Orange being a fairly good offense team that has some defensive issues, I think they match up well with the Cavaliers since the hosts aren't likely to light it up any time soon. The Orange are 1-1 straight up in true road games this season and I think they can do enough to stay within the number here against their offensively-challenged foe.
