Nebraska riding win streak
Nebraska comes into tonight’s game on a four-game win streak since an 85-78 loss at Minnesota back on Dec. 5. The Huskers have covered the spread in their last three lined games, including wins over Oklahoma State and Creighton. The Cornhuskers are 11-2 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, 1-1 on the road, 9-2-1 against the spread and 7-4 with the under.
The Cornhuskers have one of the top defensive teams in college basketball, as they are giving up just 57.8 points per game this season while holding opponents to 37.4 percent shooting from the field and 25.4 percent shooting from the arc. Offensively, Nebraska is averaging 80.2 points per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field. James Palmer Jr. is leading the team with 19.6 points per game while Isaac Copeland adds 14.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Isaiah Roby, who averages 10.1 points per game, is questionable to play tonight due to a groin injury.
Terps hoping to bounce back
Maryland suffered a loss at home to Seton Hall back on Dec. 22 and the Terps lost their last Big Ten game, 62-60 at Purdue back on Dec. 6. Still, they are 10-3 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, 8-2 at home, 6-6-1 against the spread and 7-6 with the under.
The Terrapins are a respectable defensive team, giving up 65.2 points per game while holding opponents to 40.2 percent shooting. They also allow the third-fewest rebounds per game at 25.6. Offensively, Maryland is putting up 77.5 points per game while shooting 48.2 percent. Anthony Cowan Jr. is averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 assists per game to lead the team while Bruno Fernando is adding 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Jalen Smith, who puts up 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, is questionable tonight due to an illness.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Nebraska
Nebraska is 10-0-1 against the spread in their last 11 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 Big Ten games.
Maryland
The Terrapins are 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five home games, but 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games following a win.
Prediction:
This should be a close game. Nebraska isn’t a team I would normally have faith in on the road, but they have picked up a win at Clemson. Still, Maryland is a pretty long trip for the Huskers. The Terps have been pretty competitive in both Big Ten games thus far. Their lone loss was by two points at Purdue. I think the Terps ability to rebound will be a problem for Nebraska. I just can’t quite trust Nebraska on the road against a respectable program in a straight-up matchup.
