Golden Eagles dominate Jaguars
Marquette rolled to an 84-41 victory Friday night at home over Southern to improve to 11-2 on the season. The Golden Eagles led 48-17 at halftime to put away the Jaguars quickly. Markus Howard paced Marquette with 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting including a perfect 6-of-6 on 3-point attempts plus 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Sam Hauser contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot 27-of-60 from the floor, 9-of-21 from 3-point range and 21-of-30 from the free throw line.
Red Storm fall on buzzer beater
St. John’s lost its Big East opener Saturday night by a count of 76-74 at Seton Hall as the hosts hit the game-winner as time expired. It was the first loss of the season for the Red Storm following 12 victories. St. John’s was outscored 40-29 in the second half after leading by nine at halftime. Mustapha Heron paced the Red Storm with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting including 4-of-8 on 3-point attempts and 5-of-7 at the charity stripe. Marvin Clark II tallied 16 points and five boards. Justin Simon added 16 points, four dimes, three rebounds and two steals. St. John’s shot 25-of-58 from the floor, 9-of-25 from 3-point distance and 15-of-18 from the free throw line.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Marquette
The Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a straight up win. Marquette is 1-4 ATS in its last five road games.
St. John’s
The Red Storm are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. St. John’s is 7-20 ATS in its last 27 games overall.
Prediction:
Seton Hall was the best team St. John’s had played to date and it resulted in a defeat. Previously, the best two wins for the Red Storm came against VCU in overtime by a count of 87-86 in a semi-home situation and a 76-73 victory versus Georgia Tech in a neutral setting. I can’t endorse St. John’s today against a more battle-tested Marquette team that has one of college basketball’s elite scorers in Howard. Look for Howard to take over again and lead the Golden Eagles to a victory.
