LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -Former Wake Forest and South Carolina coach Dave Odom is the new chairman of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
Odon was chosen Tuesday to succeed former Big East commissioner Dave Gavitt and run the eight-team invitational celebrating its 26th anniversary next month.
Odom guided Wake Forest to the final eight in the 1996 NCAA tournament and his teams made a total of 10 appearances in the tournament.
Gavitt will remain with the event as co-chairman emeritus with former chairman Wayne Duke, who served as commissioner of the Big Eight and Big Ten conferences.
This year’s tournament will be Nov. 23-25 at the Lahaina Civic Center.
