LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -Sean Smith had 22 points and 11 rebounds and John Williams added 21 points and 15 boards to lead North Carolina-Asheville to a 103-95 overtime victory over Virginia Military Institute on Monday night.
The Bulldogs outscored the Keydets 17-9 in overtime.
Reid Augst had 23 points and Matt Dickey added 22 for the Bulldogs (10-13, 6-6 Big South Conference), who entered the game having lost four of their last five overall and four straight road games.
Travis Holmes scored a career-high 37 points for the Keydets (17-4, 8-2), the nation’s highest-scoring team (96 ppg). The senior needed just two points to become the first player in VMI and Big South history with at least 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals in his career.
Holmes also hit a jumper with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
VMI won 114-105 on Dec. 6.
