The Vanderbilt menβs basketball program has never been a real national power, but the 2010 Commodores are a reasonable dark horse to win the NCAA Championship.
Vanderbilt is currently ranked 20th in the nation with a 23-7 record. The Commodores have emerged from the SEC Conference with a 12-4 record, which ranks second in the SEC East.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have given Vanderbilt 75/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament while also giving them 4/1 odds to win the SEC Tournament.
In the SEC alone, Vanderbilt ranks third in scoring offense, averaging 78.1 points per-game. Defensively, the Commodores are eight at 69.3 points allowed per-game. Their strengths include free throw shooting as they lead the SEC with a shooting percentage of .727. Vanderbilt also ranks second in the SEC in FG percentage at .475.
The marquee wins for Vanderbilt come against
The Commodores have had a very balanced offense as four players are scoring in double figures. Guard Jermaine Beal leads the team in scoring at 14.7 points per-game while also dishing out 3.1 assists. Jeffery Taylor and A.J. Ogilvy each post 13.9 points per-game. Ogilvy is pulling down 6.2 rebounds and blocking 1.5 shots per-game as well.
