Pitt reached the Elite Eight last year, but the Panthers have failed reach the Final Four since 1941. This year, Pitt is 24-7 overall and 13-5 in the Big East. Pitt is currently ranked No. 16 in the country.

Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have given Pittsburgh 60/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament while also giving them 3/1 odds to win the Big East Tournament.

Pittsburgh has four wins over ranked opponents this year and the Panthers have won eight of their last nine games. Pitt has beaten each team in the Big East except for Notre Dame, South Florida, and Georgetown.

Pitt’s strengths come on defense as the Panthers lead the Big East in scoring defense, allowing just 61.7 points per-game while holding opponents to just .398 percent shooting. The defense has helped make up for poor scoring from Pitt, as it averages just 68.8 points.

Individually, Pitt has been led by guard Ashton Gibbs, who is scoring 16.2 points per-game while shooting 40 percent from 3-point land. Guard Brad Wanamaker is scoring 12 points and dishing out 4.7 assists per-game while also pulling down 5.7 rebounds. Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown each average over 10 points per-game as well.
