The biggest field of any conference tournament is the 2010 Big East Tournament which begins play Tuesday from Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.

In this tournament, which features 16 teams, the teams finishing with seeds 9 through 16 will play first round games, while teams 5 through 8 will receive byes to the second round. The top 4 teams during the regular season receive a double-bye to the quarterfinals. The championship will take place on Saturday night.

In this tournament, five-time champion and 2009-10 regular season champion, Syracuse, is favored to win its sixth title.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have given Syracuse 37/20 odds to win the tournament. Other short odds to win are West Virginia (3/1), Pittsburgh (3/1), and Villanova (7/2).

Syracuse last won the tournament title in 2006, but this season, the Orange are ranked No. 1 in the country as of now with a 28-3 record overall and a 15-3 mark in the Big East. Syracuse will be the top seed and not play until Thursday. Syracuse has lost twice to Louisville and also lost to Pittsburgh. The Orange have seven wins over ranked opponents.

West Virginia has never won the Big East Tournament but reached the finals in 2005. The Mountaineers currently have a No. 10 ranking in the country. They are 24-6 overall and 13-5 in the Big East, earning the third seed in the tournament. WVU has lost in conference to UCONN, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Syracuse, and Notre Dame. They hold five wins over ranked opponents and have won five of their last six games.

Pittsburgh has won two Big East Tournaments, the last coming in 2008. The Panthers are currently ranked 17th in the country and are 24-7 on the year and 13-5 in the Big East. Pitt will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Panthers have lost to Georgetown, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, WVU, and South Florida in conference play. Pitt holds four wins over ranked opponents and has won eight of its last nine games.

Villanova has won just one Big East Tournament, which came in 1995. The Wildcats will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament with a 13-5 conference record. Villanova is currently ranked No. 9 in the country and is 24-6 overall. The Wildcats have lost conference games to Georgetown, UCONN, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and WVU. Nova has three wins over conference opponents but lost five of their last nine games.
