CLEVELAND (AP) – A person familiar with the negotiations says the Cavaliers have reached an agreement to make David Blatt their new coach.
Blatt, a highly successful international coach in Israel, emerged as the leading candidate in recent days, and the sides reached contract terms Friday, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting during its search.
This will be the first NBA job for Blatt, who spent the past 20 years developing into one of Europe’s top coaches. He recently resigned from Euroleague champion Maccabi Tel Aviv to pursue his dream of coaching in basketball’s top professional league. Now the 55-year-old will take over the Cavs, who are on their third coach in three years and own the No. 1 overall pick in next week’s draft.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer first reported Blatt’s deal.
