BOSTON (AP) -Guard Tony Allen was inactive Wednesday night for the Celtics’ playoff game against the Pistons after hurting his Achilles’ tendon during practice.
Forward Brian Scalabrine, who did not play in any of Boston’s previous 18 playoff games, was activated in his place for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Allen, who played just 46 minutes in 12 playoff games this year, sustained a mild strain to his right Achilles’ tendon while playing a game of 1-on-1 Tuesday, coach Doc Rivers said. He is averaging one point per game.
In the first four games of the series, which Detroit and Boston split, Allen was scoreless while playing six minutes in three games.
During the regular season, Allen, a four-year veteran, averaged 6.4 points in 75 games.
