Cavaliers vs. Pistons Pick
The Cleveland Cavaliers hope to avoid a letdown after an emotion win on Sunday when they hit the road to face the Detroit Pistons tonight at 7:30PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Cavaliers are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -5 points against the Pistons. The over/under total for the game is listed at 204.5 points. The Cavs won the lone meeting this year, 104-81, back on Nov. 18 in Cleveland. The Cavs have won five straight over the Pistons, covering in three of the last four encounters.
Cleveland is coming off a big 109-108 win over the Warriors on Sunday to move to 23-6 on the season. The Cavs are 15-13-1 against the spread now, having won five straight overall while covering in their last four games. Cleveland is putting up 110.9 points per game now on offense while allowing 102.7 points per game on defense. LeBron James is putting up 25.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game this year while Kyrie Irving is averaging 23.8 points and 5.5 assists per game. However, both may rest following a 40-plus-minute performance against the Warriors.
Detroit is coming off a 119-113 loss to the Warriors at home for their fifth straight loss. The Pistons are now 14-18 overall and 15-17 against the spread. They have failed to cover in four of their last five, but the lone cover was as a home underdog against the Warriors. The Pistons are scoring just 98.4 points per game on offense this year, but the defense is allowing only 98.1 points per contest. Tobias Harris is the leading scorer with 15.9 points per game, but the team is led by Andre Drummond, who averages 14 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.
Though the Pistons are on a 5-game losing streak, coach Stan Van Gundy has been pleased with his team’s effort the last two games. They showed an ability to win against Golden State and I think they bring that tonight against the team that swept them in the playoffs. When you also consider that the Cavs may rest their top two players and are coming off a draining game with the Warriors on Sunday, I like Detroit. The Pistons are 3-1 against the spread as a home underdog this year. I think they go 4-1.
