Pelicans in a funk
New Orleans wasn’t able to string together back-to-back wins. After ending a long skid with a win at Minnesota, New Orleans following that up with a loss at Golden State on Friday night. The Pelicans are 7-23 on the season, 3-12 on the road, 10-19-1 against the spread and 16-14 with the under.
The Pelicans are a mess on defense this season, allowing 118.5 points per game while opponents shoot 47.1 percent against them. Offensively, New Orleans is averaging 111.9 points per game while shooting 44.6 percent as a team. Brandon Ingram is leading the team with 25.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Jrue Holiday is adding 19.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists per contest.
Blazers heating up
Portland has won four straight games following a 113-106 win at home over Minnesota on Saturday night. The Blazers are 2-1-1 against the spread during this win streak. Portland is 14-16 on the season, 8-6 at home, 13-15-2 against the spread and 15-15 with the over/under total.
The Blazers are putting up 112.8 points per game on offense this season while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. Defensively, Portland is allowing 113.4 points per game while opponents shoot 43.8 percent from the field. Carmelo Anthony is questionable to play tonight due to a knee injury. Anthony is averaging 16 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season. Damian Lillard is leading the team with 26.9 points and 7.5 assists per game. CJ McCollum is adding 22.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
New Orleans
The Pelicans are just 1-6-1 against the spread in their last eight road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog.
Portland
The Blazers are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite.
Prediction:
New Orleans claimed a 115-104 win over Portland in New Orleans back on Nov. 19, but I like the Blazers in tonight’s meeting. New Orleans hasn’t been competitive in most games this year. The Blazers are winning, especially at home as of late where they have won four straight while going 3-0-1 against the spread. Portland’s guards should be able to score at will against this New Orleans defense and I don’t see the Pelicans being able to keep pace on the road. They had just 102 points at Golden State on Friday, playing a team that has been abysmal. Portland is a team that is figuring things out and starting to gain momentum.
NBA Prediction: Portland Trail Blazers -6.5
